The confluence
of the Arkansas (pronounced: R-Kan-Zus) and Little
Arkansas Rivers join together in downtown Wichita
at the "Keeper Of The Plains". |

"Keeper
Of The Plains" the magnificent 44-foot-high
statue by local artist Blackbear Bosin. There
are bike, skate and walking paths plus a system
of parks and recreation facilities in the downtown
Wichita river and residential areas. |

Visit
Old Town,
a red-brick warehouse district of early Wichita.
Catch a ride on a Trolley to 'Old Town', have
lunch and shop at the many unique shops, include
the antique stores along the way and return for
a evening of dining and entertainment. Be
sure to plan time to see the Museum
of World Treasures, now located in 'Old
Town'. Just a few of the thousands of items
this wonderful museum includes are rare Egyptian,
Roman & Greek Treasures, Civil War & other
World War displays, autographs of all US Presidents
and intriguing artifacts from Europe's Royalty.
Just across the way take a spin through the 'Old
Town' hotel lobby, the renovated Keen-Kutter building,
wow what a cool hotel. Enjoy a movie at
the
Old Town Theater. |

The
Wichita
Boathouse is also
located downtown on the banks of the Arkansas River.
The America's Cup racing yacht "Jayhawk",
and replica of the silver America's Cup trophy are
on permanent display at the boathouse. |

Nearby
is the beautiful ice rink,
Wichita Ice Center. The facility includes
an Olympic size ice rink, NHL size rink and bar
& grill. |

West
of the ice rink is the Lawrence-Dumont
Stadium. |

The
beautiful
Botanical Gardens change with the seasons
with formal and wildflower displays and a butterfly
home. A nice relaxing place to stroll among
the trees, flowers, sculptures and water features.

The
Castle Inn Riverside has been beautifully
renovated. It is a popular Bed and Breakfast
located across the street from the new Oak Street
Bridge just west of downtown. This extraordinarily
gorgeous native stone structure was formally the
Campbell Castle, it is listed on the Historical
Register. The Castle Inn and Carriage House
overlook the Arkansas River. |

At
the First
United Methodist Church downtown, 330 N.
Broadway, view a 24-by-70-foot tile mosaic, by Bernard
'Poco' Frazier. The
70,000-piece mosaic that faces Broadway represents
the Scriptural verse: "Be still and know that
I am God" (Psalm 46:10). The church's
135-foot-high tower, which stands as a Wichita landmark,
has a crown on top representing Jesus as the king
of kings. |

Wichita's
children's museum and science center, Exploration
Place, a learning,
creative and community gathering center is located
on the banks of the Arkansas River just west of
downtown.
Walk or drive down Douglas Avenue to see a number
of interactive bronze sculptures by Washington
artist Georgia Gerber. |
